The Test of Silence, Test of the Couple

Maison Julien Miyazu | Couple
Couple

At Maison Julien, we welcome many couples.
And sometimes, without intending to, the rhythm of service becomes a test.

Most guests accept slowness.
The two of us do our best to offer quality and pleasure.
But the menu changes every day, and the cooking is almost entirely improvised.
So sometimes, waiting happens.

And that’s when the test begins.

Some couples cannot tolerate the silence.
Not because of time itself,
but because when they sit face to face, without distraction,
they realize they no longer talk.
They are bored.

The problem is not time or silence.
It is boredom.

To escape it, people reach for their phones.
Not to observe the details of the place.
Not to enter the pause offered outside of habit.
But to return to habit as a form of safety.

From the kitchen, sensing this tension is not easy.
And trying to speed things up would solve nothing.

Because the real question has nothing to do with food.
It is deeper.
And unavoidable:

Why live as a couple?
